Wojciech Waleczek
Wojciech Waleczek is a Polish concert pianist and Professor of Musical Arts, recognised for the interpretative depth and artistic integrity of his performances, particularly in the piano repertoire of the nineteenth century. For more than twenty-five years, he has pursued an active international concert career, appearing as a soloist, chamber musician, and performer of piano concertos with orchestra.
He has performed in twenty-seven European countries as well as throughout Asia, Africa, and North and South America, with appearances in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kenya. His artistic activity includes performances in renowned concert halls, appearances at international music festivals, and collaborations with numerous symphony and chamber orchestras.
As a soloist, Wojciech Waleczek has appeared with distinguished ensembles including the Sinfonia Iuventus Polish National Youth Orchestra, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova, the State Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, and the Symphony Orchestra of the National Theatre of Brazil. He has also collaborated with leading philharmonic orchestras in Poland.
His discography includes recordings for the internationally renowned labels Naxos and Capriccio, devoted in particular to the works of Franz Liszt and Franz Schubert. These recordings include Grandes études de Paganini, Harmonies poétiques et religieuses, Schubert – Rarities and Short Piano Works, and Weihnachtsbaum (2024).
Wojciech Waleczek is a prizewinner of international piano competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition “Premio Mario Zanfi” in Parma, the Seiler International Piano Competition in Palermo, and the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Wrocław.
He graduated with distinction from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he studied piano under Prof. Zbigniew Raubo. He was awarded the degrees of Doctor and Habilitated Doctor of Musical Arts, and in 2022 he received the title of Professor of Arts conferred by the President of the Republic of Poland. He is Professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice, where he combines his concert career with academic and artistic activity.
In recognition of his artistic and academic achievements, he has received numerous national and cultural honours, including the Medal “Gloria Artis – Merit for Culture”, the distinction “Meritorious for Polish Culture”, the Silver Badge of Honour for Merits to the Silesian Voivodeship, and the Bronze and Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
