Beethoven and the Spirit of Europe

A Piano Recital Celebrating Europe’s Musical Heritage

Wojciech Waleczek – piano

Programme Description

Beethoven and the Spirit of Europe explores the richness and diversity of European musical culture through works by some of the continent’s most influential composers.

The first part of the recital is devoted to Ludwig van Beethoven, whose artistic vision transformed the history of music and became an enduring part of Europe’s cultural heritage. His works combine emotional depth, dramatic power and humanistic expression, from the intimacy of Für Elise and the Moonlight Sonata to Franz Liszt’s virtuoso piano transcriptions of two of Beethoven’s most recognisable symphonic movements.

The second part takes the audience on a musical journey across Europe: from the lyricism of Frédéric Chopin and the impressionistic colours of Claude Debussy to the virtuosity of Franz Liszt and the Spanish elegance of Isaac Albéniz. The programme concludes with Kamil Pawłowski’s solo-piano arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, bringing a contemporary dimension to a recital rooted in the European classical tradition.

Combining familiar masterpieces, virtuoso piano writing and a broad cultural perspective, the programme is particularly suited to concert halls, festivals, cultural institutions and events celebrating European identity and heritage.
