Programme Description
In The Greatest Hits of Classical Music, Wojciech Waleczek presents a selection of some of the most recognisable and widely admired masterpieces from the Baroque era to the twentieth century.
The programme takes the audience on a journey through different periods, styles and European musical traditions. It combines the atmospheric colours of Claude Debussy, the dramatic power of Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven, the lyricism of Fryderyk Chopin and Antonín Dvořák, and the elegance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Isaac Albéniz.
Alongside works originally composed for piano, the concert includes transcriptions of celebrated orchestral and organ compositions. Performed on a single concert grand, these familiar masterpieces acquire a new pianistic character while preserving their original expressive power.
The programme concludes with Franz Liszt’s brilliant transformation of Paganini’s famous Caprice No. 24. Combining lyrical expression, dramatic contrasts and virtuoso piano writing, The Greatest Hits of Classical Music offers both an accessible introduction to classical music and an engaging concert experience for experienced audiences.
